Granite Installation Dilemma Description

Granite Installation Dilemma

We recently had $5,000 worth of Uba Tubba Verde installed (last week). There's about a 1-1/2" X 1/8-1/4" scratch in it. When we brought it to the attention of the contractor, he said that "that's what you get with natural Stone (http://g603.net) ". We asked them to try and (http://maplered.com) repair it or replace it (they are not thrilled with replacing it of course). They tried once to repair it and (http://maplered.com) it looked like a black band (http://maplered.com) -aid on the Granite (http://tanbrown.org) . They then tried buffing it out and (http://maplered.com) it doesn't look any better. They called today and (http://maplered.com) want us to settle up before then end of the year (tax time as an excuse). We told them that we were still not satisfied with the repair. We haven't heard from them yet.

What are our options? Should we insist on replacement? What kind of repair would be acceptable? What is their responsibility in all this? We believe that the installers may have dropped the 4" backsplash piece and (http://maplered.com) it damaged the Granite (http://tanbrown.org) slab. Should the contractor have accepted the Granite (http://tanbrown.org) slab from the provider in this condition?

Thanks for your help....ncshopgirl
